Hi, I'm Deborah, a Christian wife, poet, and writer. My passion is writing about the profound ways God is at work in my life, from His lessons to the faith He builds in me. I find His handprints everywhere, giving us glimpses of Heaven to make our days a little easier, kinder, and gentler.
OIL
She carries a lamp in the dark
waiting for the Lord,
oil–
waiting, hoping.
FROM SEED TO SEED
In the Georgia red clay
blended with black gold soil,
up you sprang, wildly
like nothing we’d ever seen.
Airy gold fused petals
ring those sun seeds
where a Honey bee forages,
her pollen baskets full.
Ample green leaves rise high
as if to praise
following the sun;
eyes fixed upon,
are mine?
Ray flowers,
so soft and delicate,
sway in the summer humidity
and rising degrees.
The rainstorms now over,
washed the golden one,
sturdy, tall, and delightful,
with a stem so fuzzy.
Interconnecting spirals
of Fibonacci numbers:
a masterpiece by God
under the sky, cornflower blue,
as clouds float by
in the afternoon.
How you turn,
how you become
from seed to seed.
Your flower head
full of disc florets.
You seem to be gazing at me.
Oil was written from reading The Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins. I pray to be one of the wise ones!
“Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.
6 “And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom [a]is coming; go out to meet him!’ 7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut.
11 “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ 12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’
13 “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour [b]in which the Son of Man is coming.
Matthew 25:1-13 NKJV
FROM SEED TO SEED is a brand new first draft which is really an ode to our lovely new sunflower that has just opened up. I tried to present the peace and joy that this beautiful flower and all its mystery brings my husband and I. How did I do?

NOW FOR OUR POETRY PROMPT
Today's poetry prompt is write about an object. In the two above poems I started from ‘oil’ and then from our new birthed ‘sunflower.’
There really is no time, but I suggest getting comfortable with your journal and pen. First, pray and thank God for all He has done in your life, and then begin writing.
I look forward to reading what you come up with. And if you'd like, please share your thoughts and poem in the comments.
May the Lord bless you and keep you,
Deborah
Rainstorms over the mountains,
drops on the windshield come and go.
Lightning chains across the sky to the north,
and the clouds are dark overhead.
The sun has found a gap,
and golden light streams through showers of rain,
giving me a sublime vision of Glory,
as I journey into a new chapter of my life.
I think the brevity of “oil” really adds to its punch. Really great!
